While traveling through Virginia, we saw a church sign that said, “To prevent SINburn, apply SONscreen.”
Jesus’ blood is the “Sonscreen” that washes away our sin, so that by His sacrifice we can live in relationship with God and are spared from eternal punishment, giving us eternal life and unity with God.
Our sins cut us off from God. Because of God’s love, He gave us the Way out of this death and into eternal life. If we put on “Sonscreen” every day, walking in faith and doing God’s will, we will also be protected from “sinburn” in this life, since sin will no longer be working in us, but the Spirit of God.
I know I’m not perfect and would never try to say otherwise. But I wear my Sonscreen even on the days I don’t wear sunscreen. God is our Protector who gives us life in heaven and keeps us from the pit of fire in hell. Going to Jesus, asking for His guidance and forgiveness, keeps me close to Him and focused on doing what is right and valuable for God’s people in this world and what will prepare me for life in heaven.
Seeing how recent forest fires have burned everything in their paths has reminded me just how painful fire can be. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. I’m more aware of the need for others to hear about Jesus and His forgiveness. Though we can’t change others’ hearts, we can plant seeds by sharing our stories and what we have learned. We can water those seeds and fertilize them with prayer, kind words, and biblical principles, so that others will want to learn of God’s grace.
We can share our stories and what we have learned. We can remind others of the importance of eternity and pray that they’ll begin to seek a relationship with God.
By believing in Christ’s death and resurrection, we are saved from the power of sin in our lives.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for providing the “Sonscreen” which enables a close relationship with You in this life and in eternity. Please help those who are not yet connected with You to feel a longing stirring in their hearts so that they will begin moving toward You. In Christ’s name, Amen.
